Fort Worth Independent School District announced that South Hi Mount Elementary will operate out of the vacant Western Hills Primary campus at 8300 Mojave Trail beginning Dec. 1. The move follows an on‑site engineering assessment that identified concerns in the school’s existing building, prompting district officials to act as a precaution.
Why the relocation
District administrators did not disclose the specific nature of the engineering issues, but they emphasized that student safety remains the top priority. By clearing the affected portion of the building and shifting the entire school to a fully functional facility, the district aims to maintain a consistent learning environment while repairs are evaluated.
Logistics and calendar changes
To facilitate the transition, the school calendar has been adjusted. Two student holidays have been added: Friday, Nov. 20, and Monday, Nov. 30. These days give teachers and staff time to pack materials, move equipment, and set up classrooms at the temporary site. Classes will resume for students on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at the Western Hills Primary building.
Principal’s message
Principal Dr. Elizabeth Foreman White reassured families that the new location provides the space needed for elementary instruction. “I understand this news may bring questions and concerns, and I want to reassure you that our focus remains on providing students with a consistent, welcoming, and engaging learning experience throughout this transition,” White wrote in a message to parents.
Parent involvement
The district will hold a parent meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, at 5:30 p.m. in the South Hi Mount Elementary cafeteria. The session is intended to address community questions, explain the relocation process, and outline next steps for the school year.
What’s next
Fort Worth ISD will continue to monitor the original building and share updates as more information becomes available. The district’s proactive approach reflects its commitment to safeguarding students while minimizing disruption to their education.
Families are encouraged to stay informed through district communications and to attend the upcoming parent meeting for the most current details.
