RAPID CITY, S.D. – On Wednesday, Oct. 21, the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation is opening its virtual doors to job seekers across the state. The free, statewide hiring fair, dubbed “Brew Up Your Future,” lets residents connect with employers from the comfort of their homes.
How the event works
Participants will log onto the Department’s dedicated hiring‑event website during one of two two‑hour sessions: 10 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Once logged in, job seekers can browse company profiles, explore current openings and learn about each organization’s culture. The platform also supports real‑time video interviews, giving candidates the opportunity to interview the same day they apply.
Who’s invited
The fair is open to all South Dakota residents seeking employment, as well as to businesses looking to fill vacancies. Companies of all sizes – from local manufacturers to statewide service providers – are encouraged to participate. The event also highlights candidates from the Dakota Roots program, a state‑run initiative that helps connect underserved job seekers with employers.
Registration details
Both job seekers and employers must register in advance. Registration is free and can be completed through the Department’s virtual‑hiring website. Once registered, participants will receive a link to the online platform and instructions on how to navigate the virtual booths.
Support for job seekers
Applicants who need assistance with resumes, cover letters or interview preparation can call the Department’s Job Service line at 605‑773‑3372. Staff are available to provide one‑on‑one guidance, ensuring that every participant presents themselves professionally.
Why the virtual format matters
By moving the hiring fair online, the Department removes geographic barriers that have traditionally limited access for rural residents. The virtual format also aligns with the administration’s broader effort to modernize the state’s workforce development tools, making it easier for families to find stable, well‑paying jobs without long commutes.
Looking ahead
The Department plans to make “Brew Up Your Future” an annual event, building on the success of previous virtual job fairs. Organizers hope the initiative will spur economic growth, support traditional families, and give individuals the liberty to pursue meaningful careers in their own communities.
