The South Anchorage Wolves have done it again. In a hard-fought 2026 ASAA Division I Football State Championship game played on October 23, the Wolves defeated the West Anchorage Warriors 14-6, claiming back-to-back state titles and cementing their place as the best high school football program in Alaska.
The victory was fueled by a standout performance from Yarrington and a defense that proved nearly impossible to crack all evening. West Anchorage managed just six points against a Wolves unit that showed the same stingy, disciplined play that carried South Anchorage to the championship a year ago. On the other side of the ball, the Wolves found the end zone twice — just enough to seal the deal and send their fans home celebrating.
Back-to-back state championships are a rare and remarkable achievement in Alaska high school athletics, and the Wolves’ repeat run speaks to the depth of talent and coaching that has taken root on the south side of Anchorage. The game was broadcast live and on demand through the NFHS Network, giving fans across the state a front-row seat to the action.
For the South Anchorage community, this championship is more than a trophy — it’s a source of genuine pride and a reminder of what young athletes can accomplish with determination and teamwork. The Wolves’ locker room will be a little louder this week, and rightfully so. Congratulations to the players, coaches, families, and fans who made this back-to-back title run possible. Anchorage’s south side is, once again, on top of the mountain.
