Sebastian River High School senior Adyson Millican was honored as the November Scholar Athlete, a distinction that celebrates both academic achievement and athletic excellence. As a two‑year captain of the Sharks golf team, Millican has helped transform the program from a casual pastime into a highly competitive squad.
Leadership on the Golf Course
“For all the sports I’ve played, golf is definitely the hardest and most rewarding. When you finish a good round it’s an unmatched feeling,” Millican said. Her teammates and coaches echo that sentiment. Head coach Cormack Matthews noted, “She’s been my captain, assistant coach, my mental‑health counselor – she’s been it all. Her leadership has taken the program to a new level of competition.”
Class President and Campus Involvement
Beyond the fairways, Millican serves as senior class president, a role she embraces with school pride. “I have a lot of school pride and love Sebastian River. It’s where I’ve met close friends I hope to keep for life,” she explained. Her involvement extends to the weight‑lifting and track teams, and she balances athletics with a rigorous academic schedule, maintaining a 4.4 GPA and pursuing an International Baccalaureate diploma.
Future Plans
Millican hopes to continue her golf career at the collegiate level, targeting programs at the University of Tennessee or the University of Miami. She also aspires to become an athletic trainer, already gaining experience as the football team’s manager. “I’m definitely taking it all in, cherishing every moment,” she said, adding that she keeps a scrapbook of her high‑school memories.
Community Recognition
The Scholar Athlete award highlights Millican’s ability to excel academically while leading her peers on and off the field. Her dedication embodies the values of hard work, faith, and family that the school community holds dear. As she prepares for graduation, Millican leaves a lasting legacy for future Sharks to follow.
