SeaWorld Orlando reports lower attendance but higher visitor spending in Q3

Orlando, Fla. – United Parks and Resorts, the parent company that operates SeaWorld Orlando, Discovery Cove and Busch Gardens Tampa, announced on its third‑quarter investor call that overall park attendance fell compared with the same period last year. Despite the dip in head‑counts, the company highlighted that the guests who did come to the parks spent more money on tickets, food, merchandise and special experiences.

Attendance decline linked to weather and fewer overseas visitors

The company attributed the lower visitor numbers primarily to a stretch of inclement weather that kept many families indoors on weekends. In addition, a reduction in international travelers – a segment that traditionally makes up a sizable share of Florida’s theme‑park traffic – further weighed on the figures. Both factors combined to push attendance below the company’s internal targets for the quarter.

Higher per‑guest spending offers a silver lining

While the total number of guests declined, United Parks and Resorts reported that average spend per guest rose. The increase reflects stronger sales of premium experiences such as behind‑the‑scenes tours, animal‑encounter packages and upgraded dining options. The company said the trend demonstrates that the parks remain attractive to visitors who are willing to invest in higher‑value experiences.

Pass sales and outlook for 2027

United Parks and Resorts also noted that the number of annual passes sold this year outpaced the previous year, suggesting a loyal base of repeat visitors. Management expressed optimism that the combination of higher pass ownership and the upcoming rollout of new attractions will help reverse the attendance dip and drive stronger revenue growth in 2027.

Local impact and community response

SeaWorld Orlando and its sister parks are major employers in the Central Florida region, providing thousands of jobs and supporting a wide network of local vendors. Community leaders emphasized the importance of the parks to the regional economy and welcomed the company’s focus on enhancing guest experiences. They also urged the tourism board to continue promoting Orlando as a year‑round destination, especially as weather patterns shift.

What this means for visitors

For families planning a trip to Central Florida, the report suggests that while crowds may be lighter on certain days, the parks are likely to offer more premium options and potentially shorter wait times for popular rides and shows. Travelers are encouraged to check the parks’ official websites for the latest ticket packages and seasonal promotions.

United Parks and Resorts will provide a more detailed financial update in its upcoming fourth‑quarter earnings release, where analysts will look for signs that the attendance trend is stabilizing and that higher per‑guest spending can sustain overall profitability.
