Reno‑Sparks, Nev. – The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program is now accepting registrations, giving local families a chance to receive Christmas gifts, food boxes and senior presents. Major Randy Hartt, Northern Nevada Coordinator, explained that early applications are essential to verify families and meet the program’s capacity.
How the Angel Tree works
Volunteers collect information about each child – first name, age, gender and a wish list – and attach it to a tag on a decorated tree. Once the list is complete, the Angel Trees are placed around town and the gifts are distributed.
2025 impact and this year’s goals
Last year the program provided over 9,000 toys for children and assembled roughly 1,049 food boxes. In addition, more than 2,100 gifts were delivered to seniors through the Silver Angel Tree. Hartt said the success reflects the generosity of the Reno‑Sparks community.
Where to sign up and donate
Applications are available online, and physical Angel Trees will be set up at several locations, including area Walmart stores, Meadowood Mall, Corwin Ford and other community sites. The trees will be installed the week before Thanksgiving and should be ready by Black Friday. To participate, volunteers simply grab a tag, purchase items from the wish list and return them to the same location.
Businesses interested in hosting an Angel Tree can contact the Salvation Army Reno Corps at (775) 688‑4555.
Community call to action
Hartt praised the community’s caring spirit, noting, “We live in a great community that really cares for its neighbors in need. We couldn’t do what we do without our generous neighbors.” He encouraged residents to get involved, whether by donating items, volunteering time or spreading the word.
