Las Vegas – On Sunday morning, Sunset Park at 2601 E. Sunset Road became a hub of movement and community as SafeNest hosted its eighth annual Run for Hope. Over 120 participants of all ages laced up for a 5K run and a 1K walk, many accompanied by their dogs, to raise awareness and funds for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Event highlights
News3’s Chloe Koast served as the master of ceremonies, welcoming families, local teams and individual volunteers. The morning’s schedule featured a timed 5K race followed by a family‑friendly 1K walk, allowing participants of any fitness level to take part. In addition to the athletic component, attendees enjoyed a Health + Wellness Fair where local vendors offered resources, giveaways and activities for children.
Supporting a vital mission
SafeNest, a nonprofit dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence, said registration proceeds directly fund its mission to provide hope, healing and safety for survivors throughout Southern Nevada. The organization highlighted that the event not only raises money but also educates the community about the signs of abuse and the resources available for victims.
Community involvement
Families, churches, schools and local businesses joined the cause, underscoring the event’s emphasis on community solidarity. Many participants noted that the inclusive atmosphere—complete with pet‑friendly paths and a festive fair—made the cause feel personal and approachable. “Seeing so many neighbors come together reminds us that we’re not alone in supporting survivors,” said a longtime SafeNest volunteer.
Looking ahead
SafeNest plans to expand the Run for Hope in future years, aiming to reach more neighborhoods across Clark County and to deepen partnerships with local health providers and faith‑based groups. The organization encourages anyone interested in volunteering, donating or simply learning more about domestic‑violence prevention to visit its website or attend upcoming community workshops.
The Run for Hope exemplifies how a simple 5K can become a powerful platform for compassion, education and action, reinforcing the belief that strong families and faith‑centered communities are essential to protecting the most vulnerable among us.
