The City of Richardson is actively progressing on a series of transportation projects designed to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and overall roadway conditions. While the list is not exhaustive, seven key projects are either planned, underway, or recently completed.
Planned projects
Collins Boulevard overpass improvements – The city plans to modify existing bicycle and traffic lanes on the Collins Boulevard overpass and add signal and sidewalk upgrades. Officials are preparing to award a contract, with construction slated to begin next year.
Saint Paul Drive reconstruction – This project will replace the current asphalt with a 27‑foot concrete roadway along Saint Paul between Spring Valley Road and US 75. Crews will also replace 170 linear feet of 8‑inch water lines. An interlocal agreement between Dallas and Richardson has been approved, allowing the design phase to move forward.
Ongoing projects
Custer Parkway reconstruction – Full street reconstruction from Campbell Road to the President George Bush Turnpike is in progress. In mid‑October, traffic between Lookout Road and Canyon Creek Drive was shifted to a newly built southbound lane.
Richland Park Drive reconstruction – The project covers two segments: Sheffield Drive to Tiffany Trail and Stillmeadow Drive to Wentworth Drive. Crews are rebuilding the roadway while replacing utility lines beneath it. Utility installation continues, and paving of northbound travel lanes is underway.
Vernet Street asphalt overlay – Work includes milling the existing asphalt, repairing concrete panels, and applying a fresh asphalt layer. Curbs and gutters are also being repaired as needed. Repairs on the westbound lane are complete; work on the eastbound lanes continues.
West Shore Drive and Fontana Avenue improvements – The project adds sidewalk and utility upgrades, addresses pavement repairs on West Shore Drive between Arapaho Road and Campbell Road, and includes work on Fontana Avenue between West Shore and Meadow View Drive. The northbound lane of West Shore between Arapaho and Melrose Drive was closed in mid‑October for water‑line repairs, with traffic diverted to the southbound lane and on‑street parking temporarily prohibited.
Completed project
Sherman Street and Lingco Drive reconstruction – Crews rebuilt South Sherman Street between West Kaufman Street and Lingco Drive and reconstructed Lingco between Sherman and Spring Valley Road. The contractor has finished construction and is now addressing final punch‑list items.
These projects reflect Richardson’s commitment to maintaining safe, reliable roadways for families, commuters, and local businesses. By addressing both major thoroughfares and neighborhood streets, the city aims to support the daily lives of its residents while fostering continued economic growth.
