Plano residents will soon enjoy upgraded amenities at three of the city’s beloved parks. According to Plano Park Planning Manager Katie Dunham, the Longhorn Park renovation project is in its final landscaping phase and is expected to be completed on Oct. 29.
Longhorn Park receives $2 million upgrade
The city council approved a $2 million renovation package for Longhorn Park in April 2025, funded by the 2021 Bond that allocated $81.9 million for park improvements across Plano. New features include a modern playground, a covered pavilion, additional trees, exercise equipment, an upgraded backstop for baseball, and drainage improvements to address past flooding concerns.
Bob Woodruff Park North adds solar lighting and trail work
Bob Woodruff Park North is also seeing significant enhancements. Solar‑powered light poles have been installed and are now operational, providing brighter, energy‑efficient illumination for park users. The lighting project is part of a broader renovation effort that will keep the park closed through Feb. 2027. Trail work associated with the new lighting is in the final grass‑installation and clean‑up stage, with completion expected within two weeks and overall project finish by early November.
New sidewalk improves access at Bob Woodruff Park South
In a meeting on Oct. 12, the Plano City Council approved $311,139 for a new sidewalk that will run from the entrance of Bob Woodruff Park South to the East Park Boulevard Bridge. The sidewalk will enhance pedestrian safety and connectivity, making it easier for families and seniors to reach the park and surrounding neighborhoods.
Community impact and future outlook
These projects reflect Plano’s ongoing commitment to investing in quality public spaces that support family recreation, health, and community cohesion. By leveraging bond funding and modern, sustainable technologies such as solar lighting, the city is ensuring that its parks remain safe, attractive, and functional for years to come. Residents can look forward to enjoying the new playgrounds, exercise equipment, and improved pathways as soon as the work is finished.
