Outagamie County residents looking for a safe, family‑focused Halloween outing can head to the Outagamie Conservation Club’s haunted hayride this weekend. The event, set on a scenic trail within the club’s property, offers a blend of light‑hearted scares, festive décor, and community service.
What to Expect
Visitors will board a rustic hay wagon that winds through the woods, passing handcrafted props such as castles, a Santa sleigh, witches and friendly ghosts. “It’s just a really good time for people to come out, enjoy the lights and get a little bit scared,” said Jen Learman, Director of the Outagamie Conservation Club. “We have a bon fire, food, drinks and kids’ games, so it’s a family event.”
Volunteer chair Tanya Stone added, “The designs of the props are a labor of love. We’ve made castles, Santa sleighs, witches, ghosts—different ideas for different areas out here.” The volunteers have spent months building and fine‑tuning the displays, ensuring a memorable experience for children and adults alike.
Fundraising with a Purpose
Beyond the thrills, the hayride serves as a fundraiser for local charities. Attendees can receive discounts on registration by donating canned goods or gently‑used winter jackets. “The cans and coats go to the Salvation Army Bread of Life in Black Creek,” Learman explained. “We also donate 10 percent of registration fees, up to $1,000, to community recipients we select after the hayride.”
Event Schedule
The haunted hayride runs on two weekends: Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, then again on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24. All times are in the morning, giving families the chance to enjoy the festivities before evening activities begin.
Local families have already expressed excitement. “Kids especially get a kick out of Halloween. They’re having a great time out here,” Learman noted. “It’s a lot of work, but a lot of fun.”
How to Participate
Admission is free, though donations are encouraged to qualify for the registration discount. Food and beverages are available for purchase on site, and a bon fire adds a cozy touch to the autumn evening. For more information, visitors can contact the Outagamie Conservation Club directly or follow their social media updates.
This event exemplifies community spirit, offering a safe Halloween alternative while supporting those in need throughout Outagamie County.
