ODOT Announces Evening and Overnight Lane Closures for Brent Spence Bridge Survey Work

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) released a schedule of temporary lane restrictions this week as part of the ongoing Brent Spence Bridge project, a critical infrastructure effort that will improve a key river crossing for commuters and freight traffic.

Evening and overnight closures on I‑75 and U.S. 50

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, ODOT will close the southbound I‑75 lanes between Hopple Street and Ezzard Charles Drive from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. Traffic will continue in three lanes on the interstate during the closure.

Wednesday, Oct. 14, sees a single‑lane (left‑lane) closure on U.S. 50 East and West between Linn and Gest streets from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday. One lane in each direction will remain open.

Thursday, Oct. 15, a single‑lane (left‑lane) closure will affect westbound U.S. 50 from I‑471 to Fort Washington Way from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, with traffic maintained in a single lane.

Weekend closure for beam installation

Starting at 11 p.m. on Oct. 16, ODOT will close I‑75 southbound at the Freeman Avenue Exit (Exit 1F) to allow contractors to install girders for the new Linn Street overpass bridge, spanning between W. 8th and W. Court streets. The closure will remain in effect until 5 a.m. on Oct. 19 and will also affect the 9th Street/8th Street Viaduct entrance ramp.

In addition, the entrance to I‑75 South from the Western Hills Viaduct will be closed. All lanes of I‑75 South will be shut at the Freeman Avenue exit, with through traffic detoured via SR 562 (Norwood Lateral) to I‑71 South. Local traffic between the Norwood Lateral and the Freeman Avenue exit will be maintained, though ODOT notes there will be no signed detours on local streets.

Project timeline and impact

ODOT projects that the Linn Street reconstruction portion of the Brent Spence Bridge effort will see traffic reopened on Linn Street in the fall of 2027. The entire Linn Street Reconstruction Project is slated for completion in late spring 2029.

While the temporary closures will inconvenience commuters, ODOT emphasizes that the work is essential to ensure the long‑term safety and capacity of a bridge that carries thousands of daily vehicles across the Ohio River, linking Cincinnati with Northern Kentucky.

What drivers should know

  • Plan alternate routes, especially for southbound I‑75 traffic, using SR 562 and I‑71.
  • Expect reduced lane availability on U.S. 50 during the evening hours listed above.
  • Stay updated on ODOT’s website or local news outlets for any changes to the schedule.

ODOT encourages patience and cooperation from the traveling public as the agency works to modernize a vital transportation corridor for the benefit of families, businesses, and the broader community.
