North Richland Hills Approves Three of Four Bond Measures to Fund Fire, Roads and City Services

North Richland Hills residents voted in favor of three of the four bond propositions on the November ballot, according to unofficial results released by the city. The approved measures will provide $135.43 million for a series of infrastructure projects that aim to strengthen public safety, improve transportation corridors and expand municipal facilities.

What the approved bonds will fund

The bond package includes funding for:

  • Fire‑station upgrades: Modernizing equipment, adding new apparatus bays and enhancing response capabilities across the city’s fire districts.
  • Roadway improvements: Reconstructing and resurfacing key arterial streets, adding turn lanes where needed and upgrading drainage to reduce flooding risks.
  • City‑services facility expansion: Building additional space for the Department of Public Works, utilities and other essential city operations.

These projects are slated to begin in 2028, with bonds issued that year and construction proceeding in phases over the next decade. City officials say the phased approach will allow the municipality to manage costs responsibly while delivering tangible benefits to residents.

What was rejected

Voters turned down the proposal to enlarge the library’s community room. The library had sought additional space to host larger events and provide more meeting rooms for local groups. While the community room expansion did not receive support this cycle, the library will continue to operate its existing facilities.

Historical context

North Richland Hills has a long record of supporting bond measures. Since 2003, when voters rejected a proposal to expand what is now the City Services Complex, the city has approved every bond on the ballot. This pattern underscores a community willingness to invest in infrastructure that supports safety, mobility and efficient municipal services.

Next steps for the city council

The city council will review the final vote tallies at a special meeting scheduled for November 17. During that session, council members are expected to adopt the bond authorizations, set the timeline for bond issuance and begin the procurement process for contractors and engineers.

Why the bonds matter to families and neighborhoods

Improved fire‑station capabilities mean faster emergency response times, a critical factor for protecting families and property. Upgraded roadways will ease daily commutes, reduce vehicle wear and improve safety for school‑age children walking or biking to school. The expanded city‑services facility will centralize essential functions, making it easier for residents to access permits, utilities assistance and other municipal services.

Local leaders have emphasized that the bond program aligns with the city’s long‑term strategic plan, which prioritizes responsible fiscal management, transparent budgeting and investments that directly benefit the community’s quality of life.

Community response

Several neighborhood associations expressed optimism about the approved projects, noting that the fire‑station and roadway upgrades address long‑standing concerns about response times and traffic congestion. While some library patrons were disappointed by the rejection of the community‑room expansion, city officials indicated they will explore alternative ways to meet the library’s space needs, possibly through partnerships or phased renovations.

Overall, the election results reflect a community that values practical improvements to its infrastructure and is willing to fund those projects through carefully structured bonds.
