Kristen King, a recent graduate from Nicholas County, Kentucky, discovered a new career path during a pharmacy convention trip to Florida. While visiting Disney World, she learned about the Disney College Program and decided to apply, shifting her original plan of becoming a dentist.
Dream job with Disney
Through the Disney College Program, King earned a premium internship with Disney’s VIP Tours team. She says the role feels like a “dream job” because it lets her use her multilingual abilities—she speaks English, Spanish and Japanese—to assist guests from around the world. On one memorable day she led a tour in Spanish and later helped another group in Japanese.
Hallmark Christmas movie cameo
While working at Disney, King was selected to appear as an extra in a Hallmark Christmas movie starring Lacey Chabert. The film, titled “Holiday Ever After: A Disney World Wish Come True,” was shot on location inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom. King described filming at Magic Kingdom as a unique experience, noting that the crew worked overnight from midnight until about 7 a.m. while the park appeared closed to the public.
Lessons learned and inspiration for others
King says the greatest takeaway from the program is the people she met. Participants range from recent college graduates to individuals in their 50s and 60s who are pursuing a new chapter in life. “No matter how old you are, you have the ability to change your path,” she said, adding that the program feels like a second chance for many.
Her story underscores that it is never too late to follow a dream, even if the journey takes you to unexpected places. The Hallmark movie is scheduled to premiere on the Hallmark Channel on November 28.
