With three weeks left until Election Day, voters in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District can get a closer look at their Republican nominee, David Flippo. In an interview at Powning Memorial Park in downtown Reno, Flippo opened up about the personal convictions that shape his campaign.
Family heritage of service
“My family has a long history of service,” Flippo said, noting that his ancestors have answered the call to duty since the Revolutionary War. He credits his mother, father and especially his grandfather—an Army chaplain—for instilling the moral character and courage that guide his life today.
Military career and veteran perspective
Flippo grew up moving every two to three years, a rhythm he says taught him adaptability. After his father retired, he followed his own call to active duty, serving overseas with his high‑school sweetheart, now his wife. His deployments took him to the Middle East, where he participated in Operation Southern Watch, Operation Northern Watch, Iraqi Freedom and Desert Storm, beginning his service in 1985.
“Think on your feet, get your people together,” he explained, recalling the logistical challenges of fuel, supply and airlift that he managed as a commander. Those experiences, he says, proved that any obstacle can be overcome with determination and teamwork.
Transition to civilian life and Nevada roots
After retiring from the military, Flippo moved his family to Alaska, where he helped design a maintenance program for BP following the Gulf of America oil spill. He later relocated to Las Vegas, worked as a financial advisor, and owned a small business before settling in northern Nevada.
“The transition was actually pleasant. The people have been great, the weather is nicer, and it’s not as crowded,” he said of the move from southern to northern Nevada. After fourteen years in the state, Flippo now calls Nevada his home.
Why he entered politics
Flippo’s decision to run for Congress was sparked by concerns he observed under the Biden administration—national‑security threats, energy challenges and small‑business hardships. He believes his background equips him to address those issues at the federal level.
Having run in the 2022 and 2024 primaries, Flippo acknowledges the campaign trail can be “mud‑slinging.” He says he was unfairly attacked on his combat record, but remains resolute.
Core principles and campaign focus
“I’ll have Charlie Kirk in my ear, Christian values, and limited government, and we need to get back to that,” Flippo affirmed. He emphasizes a platform built on strong national defense, energy independence, and policies that empower small businesses and families.
Flippo also highlights his personal life: he and his wife raise two children and enjoy the company of five grandchildren, grounding his public service in family values.
Looking ahead
As the race tightens, Flippo says he’s ready to confront “the swamp” in Washington and fight for Nevada’s interests. “The swamp is going to take some getting used to, and I want to fight the swamp every step of the way,” he told the reporter.
Voters will see his name on the ballot alongside Democratic nominee Teresa Benitez‑Thompson on Election Day. With his military record, business experience and deep‑rooted family values, Flippo aims to offer Nevada a voice that aligns with the Constitution, faith‑based principles and limited government.
