Springfield, Mo. – This weekend the Springfield Expo Center becomes a hub for pop‑culture enthusiasts as Missouri Fan Fest opens its doors. The event runs Sunday, Oct. 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring a blend of anime, video‑game showcases, celebrity guests and a vibrant cosplay community.
Celebrity Guests and Programming
Fans can look forward to appearances by well‑known personalities such as David Arquette, Catherine Bach and Maile Flanagan, among others who have voiced or portrayed beloved characters. Panels and autograph sessions give attendees a chance to hear behind‑the‑scenes stories and take photos with the guests.
Cosplay Community Embraces Inclusion
Cosplayers of all experience levels are gathering to display their creations. “You can show up in regular clothes, you can show up in your costume, you can show up even in just a closet cosplay. It’s just such a good community. There’s not a lot of hatred. Everyone’s so accepting. It’s just wonderful,” said Jillian, who arrived dressed as Winry from Fullmetal Alchemist. She added that the environment helps those with social anxiety feel comfortable.
Many participants craft their costumes by hand. Calvin, who portrayed Al from the same series, explained, “I love making these, showing them off. I love seeing other people’s costumes. This is all EVA foam, and I even have some kneeling pads from Harbor Freight in my boots to make me taller.”
Family‑Friendly Activities
Beyond the guest panels, the fest offers a variety of activities for families and younger fans, including gaming stations, art‑drawing contests and a marketplace where vendors sell collectibles, apparel and handcrafted items. The event’s organizers emphasize that the atmosphere is designed to be safe and welcoming for all ages.
Tickets and Schedule
Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance to avoid lines. The full day’s schedule, including panel times and special events, is available on the Missouri Fan Fest website.
Supporting Local Culture
Missouri Fan Fest highlights Springfield’s growing reputation as a cultural hub for fans of pop culture, providing a space where creativity, friendship and shared interests can flourish. By fostering a supportive environment, the fest underscores the importance of community connections in today’s busy world.
