CASPER, WY — The Wyoming Highway Patrol confirmed that 30‑year‑old Kandice Gunter, who had been missing since Thursday, Oct. 29, was found dead in the wreckage of her GMC Canyon on Casper Mountain Sunday morning.
Crash details
First responders arrived around 9:20 a.m. on Wyoming Highway 251 near Lookout Point. Crews located the vehicle down the hillside and recovered Gunter inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the only occupant of the truck.
According to the patrol’s report, Gunter was traveling northbound toward Casper when she passed the Lookout Point parking area, turned left, then sharply right, causing the vehicle to slide at high speed. The front end struck a guardrail and the truck vaulted approximately 75 feet into the air before slamming back onto the ground. The impact sent the vehicle tumbling down the slope, striking a group of pine trees that forced it upright before the driver’s side hit a 24‑inch‑diameter pine tree, bringing the crash to a stop.
Investigation timeline
The exact time of the crash remains under investigation. Officials estimate the window of the accident to be between about 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 29—the evening Gunter was reported missing—and the early hours of Nov. 1, when the crash was discovered.
Agencies that responded to the scene included the Casper Police Department, Natrona County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Casper Fire‑EMS, and the Natrona County Fire Protection District.
Ongoing inquiry
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gunter’s disappearance remains open, and the patrol’s report adds new information about the crash itself. The Wyoming Department of Transportation’s Fatal Crash Summary map provided the preliminary details, and the agency notes that information may be updated as the investigation continues.
