FORT WORTH, Texas – The National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame announced that the inaugural exhibition for its newly added Icons Gallery will feature country‑music superstar Miranda Lambert’s one‑of‑a‑kind “Velvet Rodeo” wardrobe. The gallery, part of a 16,000‑square‑foot expansion, is slated to reopen on Nov. 7 after a brief closure for construction.
Lambert’s collaboration with the museum
Lambert worked closely with museum staff to bring the exhibit to life. The collection showcases the custom outfits she wore during her “Velvet Rodeo” residency in Las Vegas, a show that blended classic Western style with the flair of Elvis‑era rock ’n’ roll. “When I first visited the National Cowgirl Museum, I was so inspired by all of the amazing Western pieces on display that I sent a bunch of photos to my stylist, Tiffany. We mixed that inspiration with the heyday of Elvis to create the ‘Velvet Rodeo’ wardrobe,” Lambert said in a press release. “Seeing these pieces now have a life beyond the stage as part of the museum’s new Icons Gallery feels really full circle and special.”
Honoring a modern cowgirl
Lambert was inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 2021 for her contributions to country music and her embodiment of the cowgirl spirit. Museum executive director Pat Riley praised the partnership, noting, “Miranda’s confidence, determination and independence make her a wonderful representative of the women we honor. Opening our Icons Gallery with this collaboration celebrates her accomplishments while giving visitors a new way to connect with a cowgirl they know and admire.”
What visitors can expect
The exhibit will allow guests to view the “Velvet Rodeo” garments up close, something previously only seen in motion under stage lights. Curator Ashley Kowalski added, “Miranda’s ‘Velvet Rodeo’ styling was inspired by historic garments from iconic western tailors which she saw on display at the museum. We are honored to give her residency wardrobe a new stage where the collection can be appreciated in its entirety.”
Local buzz and recent performances
Lambert’s recent stop in Fort Worth at Billy Bob’s Texas for the release show of her new album “Crisco” (released Oct. 2) has already generated excitement among local fans. The museum’s exhibit offers another reason for residents and visitors to explore Fort Worth’s rich Western heritage.
