Middle Tennessee Voters Guide: Mayors and City Council Races for Nov. 3

Middle Tennessee voters are preparing for a busy municipal election on November 3. Mayors, aldermen and city‑council seats are on the ballot in several counties, and each race will influence local development, public safety and community services.

How to view your ballot

All voters can use the state’s GoVoteTN portal to see a personalized sample ballot based on their address. The tool also provides early‑voting dates, polling‑place locations and registration status. County election commissions are another resource for confirming district or ward assignments.

Sumner County – Gallatin mayoral race

Gallatin residents will choose a new mayor to lead the city’s executive branch and work with the council on public safety, infrastructure and growth. The candidates are Paige Brown, Mary Genung and Johnnie Anderson.

Hendersonville aldermen

Voters in Hendersonville will decide aldermanic seats for Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 4 and Ward 6. Only those assigned to a specific ward will see that contest on their ballot.

Wilson County – Home‑rule question

Wilson County voters will consider a home‑rule amendment that could expand county authority over local governance. Residents should read the official ballot language and county explanation to understand how approval or rejection would affect county procedures.

Rutherford County – Smyrna mayoral race

Smyrna’s mayoral contest features Mary Ester Reed and Joanne Delk. The elected mayor will oversee municipal government, growth, transportation and community services.

La Vergne mayoral race

La Vergne voters will choose between Jason Cole and James Miles. Key issues include development, infrastructure and city‑operations management.

Montgomery County – Clarksville mayor and council

Clarksville’s mayoral field includes Mark Riggins, Brian Zacharias and Wanda Smith. The city council races cover Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 6, Ward 7 and Ward 10, with a voter’s residential address determining the appropriate ward.

Maury County – Columbia mayor

Columbia’s rapidly growing community will elect a mayor from two candidates: Chaz Molder and Charlie Hatcher. The ballot may also contain additional races based on a voter’s district.

Williamson County – Fairview mayor

Fairview voters will decide among Lisa Anderson, Chris McDonald and Rick Shepard. Local issues likely to be discussed include growth, infrastructure, public safety and municipal services.

What to watch

Across these contests, common themes are managing rapid population growth, maintaining safe neighborhoods, improving road and utility infrastructure, and ensuring responsive municipal services. Voters who understand the specific responsibilities of mayors and council members can make informed choices that reflect their family’s needs and community values.
