Memphis logistics firm SSK accused of withholding promised pay from remote workers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Impact Team has uncovered another alleged scam involving a Memphis‑based shipping company that recruited workers nationwide for work‑from‑home positions. SSK Logistics told job seekers they would earn up to $4,100 a month, plus bonuses, for repackaging and shipping high‑end items such as Tiffany earrings.

Workers describe the offer and the fallout

Mike Acosta, a resident of San Antonio, accepted the full‑time remote role after a layoff. He says he received packages at his home or collected them from a local store, printed new shipping labels, and sent the items onward. “They said it was like $4,100 for the month and $700 in bonuses,” Acosta recalled.

Gordon Plugh, a homeowner in Wayland, New York, was offered the same terms. The company requested a photo of his driver’s license and a selfie holding the ID before he could begin. Plugh declined the job after the request, while Acosta completed the paperwork and worked for a month.

When the time came for payment, Acosta says he never received any funds. “Last week supposedly I was supposed to get paid out, never did. Then yesterday they deleted my account and blocked me,” he said. Both men say they were contacted through job‑posting sites, not directly by SSK Logistics.

Company’s public presence is questionable

According to the Tennessee Secretary of State, SSK Logistics was registered as a for‑profit corporation in August and currently holds an active status. However, the address listed for the company on Air Trans Road belongs to an unrelated real‑estate agency. The agency confirmed that SSK Logistics used its address without permission and has taken steps to correct the information.

Better Business Bureau (BBB) representative Daniel Irwin reports receiving more than 50 inquiries or complaints about SSK Logistics in the past two months. Many callers questioned the legitimacy of the business and confirmed they were never paid for their work. “This fits the pattern of something that we’ve seen before,” Irwin noted, referencing a similar case involving another Memphis‑based firm, Postland LLC, which also failed to compensate workers across multiple states.

Impact Team’s efforts and next steps

The Impact Team attempted to contact SSK Logistics by phone; an automated system answered, and a callback indicated the number was not affiliated with the company. Email inquiries have gone unanswered.

Job seekers who believe they have been misled are urged to file complaints with the BBB or the Federal Trade Commission. The Impact Team says it will continue to pursue answers from SSK Logistics and monitor the situation for additional victims.

Broader context

Memphis’s reputation as a logistics hub—home to FedEx and numerous trucking firms—makes it an attractive location for companies seeking credibility. Irwin explained, “Memphis is known as a logistics hub, and it makes sense that these types of companies would be based or at least have a Memphis presence.” This perception can be exploited by fraudulent operators targeting job seekers nationwide.

Acosta, who has two children—an 11‑year‑old son with autism and a 10‑year‑old daughter—said the lost wages would have helped cover holiday expenses. “It was really important. Whatever they wanted, I was going to have the money to buy for them,” he said, adding that the experience has left him angry and frustrated.
