Mark Teixeira wins Texas’ 21st Congressional District, succeeding Chip Roy

San Antonio – In a decisive victory, former major‑league baseball player Mark Teixeira was elected to represent Texas’ 21st Congressional District. The Associated Press projected Teixeira as the winner early Wednesday, and the final count showed him leading Democrat Kristin Hook 55% to 45% as votes were still being tallied shortly before 1 a.m.

Campaign platform rooted in family and fiscal responsibility

Teixeira, a first‑time political candidate, ran on a platform that resonated with the district’s traditional‑family values. He pledged to lower health‑care costs, impose congressional term limits, reduce government spending and defend parental rights. In a post on X, the new congressman wrote, “Tonight’s victory belongs to the people of Texas’s 21st District. I’m not going to Washington for myself, but rather to be a strong, responsive voice for every family in this district.”

Continuity with the Trump administration’s priorities

The 21st District, which includes Bandera, Blanco, Comal, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr and Real counties as well as portions of Bexar and Hays counties, has long been a stronghold for the Republican Party. In the 2024 presidential election, 60.2% of district voters supported President Donald Trump, reflecting the community’s alignment with the administration’s focus on economic growth, border security and protecting family values.

Teixeira succeeds Rep. Chip Roy, who chose not to seek re‑election and instead entered the race for Texas attorney general. Roy’s decision opened the path for Teixeira, whose background in professional sports and community involvement helped him connect with voters across the sprawling, 6,300‑square‑mile district.

Demographic snapshot and historical context

According to state demographic data, the district is home to roughly 767,000 residents, with an approximate composition of 54% white, 34% Hispanic and 5.3% Black. The 21st District has not elected a Democrat to Congress since Bob Krueger won the seat in 1975, underscoring the significance of Teixeira’s victory for the Republican Party’s continued dominance in the region.

Looking ahead

As Teixeira prepares to take his seat in Washington, he has emphasized a commitment to being a “strong, responsive voice for every family” in the district. His focus on parental‑rights issues and fiscal restraint aligns with the priorities of many constituents who value limited government and the protection of traditional family structures.

The win also comes amid notable Democratic gains in other Texas races, including contests for the U.S. Senate, governor and several congressional seats. Nonetheless, Teixeira’s victory reaffirms the enduring Republican strength in the Hill Country and northern Bexar County.
