Marie, Ark. – Beginning Monday, Oct. 26, the stretch of Highway 181 between Interstate 55 and Highway 14 will be closed each night from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. to allow crews to complete pavement repairs. The work will continue on four nights: Oct. 26, Oct. 27, Nov. 2 and Nov. 3.
Detour routes for north‑bound and south‑bound traffic
Motorists traveling to the north side of the closure should remain on Highway 181 south until reaching Highway 14, turn west on Highway 14 to I‑55, then travel north on I‑55 back to Highway 181. Those heading to the south side should stay on Highway 181 north to I‑55, turn south on I‑55 to Highway 14, then go east on Highway 14 back to Highway 181.
Both sides of the closure will remain open to local traffic only, and all drivers are asked to obey digital message boards, barrels, barricades, flaggers and signage that will be posted throughout the work zone.
Why the nighttime closure?
Closing the road at night gives crews the uninterrupted space they need to repair the pavement without risking conflicts with daytime traffic. By working after rush hour, the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) aims to finish the project quickly and minimize the impact on commuters.
Safety reminders
ARDOT urges all drivers to proceed with caution, obey all traffic control devices, and allow extra travel time when navigating the detours. Motorists should also keep an eye on the digital message boards for real‑time updates on lane status and any changes to the schedule.
