Louisville’s beloved zoo is extending a special thank‑you to the nation’s service members this Veterans Day. On Wednesday, Nov. 11, active, retired and discharged military personnel and their families can visit the Louisville Zoo without paying admission.
Mayor’s message underscores gratitude
Mayor Craig Greenberg highlighted the significance of the day in a city news release, saying, “Veterans Day is an opportunity for all of us to pause and recognize the courage, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform. We’re proud to welcome veterans to the Louisville Zoo with free admission as a small gesture of our city’s tremendous gratitude for all they have given to our country and our community.”
How to qualify for free entry
To take advantage of the offer, guests must present proof of service. Acceptable documentation includes a military ID, a veterans‑organization card, a DD Form 214, a photo in uniform, or any other official proof of service.
In addition to free admission, the zoo is providing a 10‑percent discount at the gift shop and a 50‑percent discount on concession food and drinks for qualifying visitors.
Active‑duty members already enjoy benefits
Active‑duty service members have long enjoyed free admission to the zoo. Their dependents can receive a 10‑percent discount when they accompany the service member with a valid ID.
Why the zoo’s gesture matters
The Louisville Zoo, a key family attraction in the city, sees the day as an opportunity to bring the community together while honoring those who have defended the nation’s freedoms. By removing the cost barrier, the zoo hopes to encourage more families of service members to enjoy a day of education, recreation, and wildlife appreciation.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, as the zoo expects higher attendance than usual on the holiday. Parking remains free, and the zoo’s regular operating hours will apply.
