The Los Angeles Zoo is inviting families to celebrate Halloween with a two‑weekend, four‑day “Boo at the L.A. Zoo” festival beginning Oct. 24. The celebration runs Oct. 24‑25 and Oct. 31‑Nov. 1, with doors open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Trick‑or‑Treat Stations and Costumed Characters
Six trick‑or‑treat stations line the route from the Winnick Family Children’s Zoo to Treetop Terrace, offering candy from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors are asked to bring their own bags or purchase reusable bags at zoo gift shops. Supplies are limited, so early arrival is encouraged.
Costumed characters from family‑friendly Halloween movies and television programs will greet guests at the Children’s Zoo, with a rotating lineup of characters each day.
Games, Activities and Live Entertainment
Halloween Headquarters at Treetop Terrace will host games and activities throughout the four‑day event, including pumpkin painting for an additional fee. Free activities are provided by Give Kids Art on Oct. 24 and the Los Angeles Public Library on Oct. 25.
The Bob Baker Marionette Theater will present live performances at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Oct. 31, adding a theatrical touch to the festivities.
New Inflatable Corn Maze and Photo Spots
A brand‑new inflatable corn maze will be available for children, and five Halloween‑themed photo locations will be set up at Selig Plaza, Marketplace, the Children’s Zoo, Rose Garden and Treetop Terrace, giving families plenty of picture‑perfect moments.
Animal Enrichment and Educational Talks
Zoo staff will showcase pumpkin‑themed enrichment demonstrations, allowing guests to watch animals interact with seasonal treats and objects. Zookeepers will also present noon talks about vultures and condors at the World of Birds Show Theater, highlighting the birds’ ecological importance.
The Conservation Expo, located near the flamingo habitat in the Rose Garden, will provide information on bat, vulture and condor conservation efforts.
Explore the LAIR Exhibits and Name New Goat Kids
Visitors can explore the LAIR exhibits, featuring reptiles, amphibians, rare snakes, poisonous frogs, arachnids and venomous lizards. The zoo is also inviting guests to suggest a name for one of four new Boer goat kids at the Children’s Zoo. Three kids—Karoo, Imbuzi and Bokkie—already have names; the fourth, a one‑horned sister, remains unnamed. Name suggestions can be submitted at the barnyard area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each event day, with the winning name announced later on social media.
Costume Guidelines and Admission
Guests are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes, but full‑face masks, weapons, obscenity and anything that could disturb guests or animals are prohibited. All Halloween activities are included with regular zoo admission or an active zoo membership.
