Loftis Endorses Stumbo for SC Attorney General

South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis M. Loftis, Jr. has endorsed 8th Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo for state Attorney General, stating that opponent Stephen Goldfinch is ‘unfit to serve’ in the office. Loftis made the endorsement in a Facebook post, citing Goldfinch’s conduct during a 2025 Senate investigation into the Treasurer’s Office.

Background on the Investigation

Loftis claims that Goldfinch led a ‘witch hunt’ against him and his office, pushing false narratives and bullying witnesses. He also alleges that Goldfinch used a fabricated document and never corrected the record, despite many of the headlines being proven false.

Goldfinch represents South Carolina Senate District 34 and announced his Attorney General bid in July 2025. He has been involved in several controversies, including federal charges related to a stem-cell company he owned, which were filed in 2013 and dropped in 2017 without an indictment.

Stumbo’s Campaign

David Stumbo, who is serving his fourth term as solicitor for the 8th Judicial Circuit, has been endorsed by several law-enforcement leaders, including 15 sheriffs and five solicitors. He entered the AG race in September 2025 and has been campaigning on a platform of seeking justice and following the facts.

The Republican runoff between Goldfinch and Stumbo is scheduled for June 23, with the winner facing Lowcountry attorney Richard Hricik, the unopposed Democratic nominee, in the November 3 general election.
