Linda Sue Schroeder (White) died peacefully at her Overland Park home on October 16, 2026, with her husband of 65 years, Leland W. Schroeder, by her side. The family says she is at rest after a brief battle with an unexpected illness.
Early life and education
Born March 10, 1942, in Peoria, Illinois, Linda was the daughter of Howard and Hazel White. After raising her children, she returned to school in 1978, enrolling in night classes at Parkland Community College in Champaign, Illinois. When the family moved, she transferred to Illinois Central Community College near Peoria and later earned her degree from Sangamon University in Springfield, graduating in 1982.
Career and professional achievements
Following another relocation to Overland Park, Kansas, Linda pursued a career in accounting. She earned her Certified Public Accountant license in 1987 and worked in the field until August 2026, earning respect for her diligence and integrity.
Family and community life
Linda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great‑grandmother. She is survived by her husband Leland; son Tyson; daughter Kirsten; grandchildren Perry, Carsen, Holden, Griffin, Arden and Harper; great‑grandchildren Lily and Emery; and brothers Ronald, Richard and Randall, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Friends remember Linda as an independent thinker who considered challenging issues carefully before forming an opinion. Though quiet, she was never hesitant to stand up for what she believed was right. Her devotion to family was evident in the countless miles she and Leland traveled each year to support grandchildren in soccer, ballet, baseball, horse shows, concerts and debate tournaments.
Faith, values and legacy
Linda’s practical nature was guided by a belief in science and logic, values she shared with those who knew her. She prioritized supporting her grandchildren’s pursuits and was known for her honest, sometimes blunt, opinions delivered with love.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization close to Linda’s heart.
Memorial service
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Central time.
