At 9 a.m. Thursday, Lincoln Police Department (LPD) technicians joined investigators from the Nebraska State Patrol at a house in Havelock, Nebraska, to begin a detailed search that could finally resolve the 26‑year‑old disappearance of local musician Regina Bos.
Tip leads to new search effort
Lt. Brian Agnew of LPD told Channel 8 News the operation stems from a tip received a few months ago suggesting Bos might be buried inside the residence. Earlier preliminary tests were inconclusive, so investigators are now conducting a more extensive excavation of the basement area.
Equipment and expertise deployed
A crew arrived with a truck and trailer full of specialized equipment, including concrete‑breaking tools, cadaver dogs and sonar devices. The team is focusing on a small, bedroom‑like room in the basement. Agnew noted that while clandestine burial sites are rare, LPD and the State Patrol have experience from a similar case earlier this year in Malcolm.
University of Nebraska anthropologists are on site to advise on proper removal techniques and to determine whether any discovered material is human. If remains are found, they will be sent to a laboratory for DNA analysis, with potential comparison to dental records or other identifying features.
Preserving evidence
Agnew emphasized the careful approach: “Once we get to the area in question, we’ll slow down quite a bit and take our time to preserve any type of evidence that could still be present.” The current homeowner, who purchased the property after Bos vanished, has been cooperative throughout the investigation.
Background on Regina Bos
Regina Bos, a local singer‑songwriter, was last seen on Oct. 17, 2000, after leaving an open‑mic night at Duggan’s Pub in Lincoln. Her car was found the next morning across the street from the pub, but she was nowhere in sight. A new lead emerged in August 2026, prompting the renewed investigative effort.
Authorities caution that DNA results could take weeks to process. The search continues as investigators remain on site throughout the day, with additional units arriving in the afternoon.
