More than 21 months after the downtown entertainment complex closed, Las Cruces officials are returning to City Council to chart the next steps for the Amador Live property. The work session, the sole substantive item on the Oct. 26 agenda, will begin at 1 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St.
Background
Amador Live opened in March 2019 as a dining and entertainment hub, featuring Amador Patio & Bar, Broken Spoke Taphouse, Jax Rooftop Bar, and Club 575 Cruces Crafted Cocktails. The venue also hosted concerts, fundraisers and community events. In January 2025, the complex permanently closed. CEO Max Bower attributed the shutdown to lingering COVID‑19 impacts, labor shortages, inflation and reduced discretionary spending.
Failed request for proposals
City staff issued a request for proposals seeking a tenant or master developer, but the solicitation did not yield a viable offer. Representatives from Economic Development, Visit Las Cruces, Public Works and Community Development have been reviewing alternative options.
New approach to be presented
During the upcoming session, staff will outline a different strategy aimed at putting the city‑owned facility back into use while ensuring long‑term sustainability. The agenda does not disclose the specifics of the alternative plan, nor does it detail why the prior solicitation failed or the projected costs of any future operation.
City officials’ comments
Deputy Community Development Director Chris Faivre confirmed that the city still owns the property and had previously leased it to Amador Hospitality. He said the city will explore leasing the space again or pursuing other uses.
Mayor Eric Enriquez expressed disappointment over the closure but emphasized the city’s commitment to move quickly and keep downtown redevelopment momentum alive.
What remains unanswered
Key questions include whether any proposals were received, why a tenant or master developer could not be secured, and what financial commitments any new approach might require. The council’s discussion is designated for direction and guidance; no formal action is scheduled.
Public participation
Residents are encouraged to review the Oct. 26 work session agenda before the meeting. Organ Mountain News will continue to follow the city’s plans for the Amador Live property and provide updates as new information becomes available.
