There is a moment, usually about ten minutes after settling into a chair on the rooftop terrace at the Texican Court Hotel, when you stop thinking about traffic on 183 or your afternoon meeting and start thinking about nothing at all. That is the power of this place, and it is the reason I keep coming back.
Tucked into the heart of Las Colinas along Northgate Drive, the Texican Court is one of those boutique hotels that punches well above its weight class. The property pulls design inspiration from the romantic side of Old Mexico — terracotta tiles, wrought-iron lanterns, hand-painted murals, courtyard archways — and it does so without a single note of kitsch. Every corner has been considered. But the crown jewel, the detail that earns this spot a permanent place on any Irving itinerary, is the rooftop pool deck and the open-air bar that goes along with it.
Non-guests are welcome, and that is the detail most Irving locals have not yet discovered. Walk through the lobby — which smells faintly of cedar and something floral — take the elevator up, and step out into an atmosphere that feels genuinely transportive. On a clear evening, the Dallas skyline sits on the horizon like a postcard, while the Las Colinas towers shimmer a little closer in. The pool glows turquoise below string lights, and the bar stocks a respectable lineup of craft cocktails, Texas beers, and frozen margaritas that are cold enough to make you forget it is July.
The bar menu leans Tex-Mex in the best possible way — queso, guacamole made with real care, warm chips that arrive before you even ask. The grilled street corn is a personal favorite, charred just enough and finished with cotija and a squeeze of lime. Nothing on the menu is trying too hard, which is exactly right for a rooftop situation where the view and the breeze are doing most of the heavy lifting.
Service here is genuinely warm without being performative. The staff seem to actually enjoy working in this space, which makes a noticeable difference. You can sit for an hour nursing a single drink and never feel rushed or watched. Come on a Thursday or Friday evening and there is often live acoustic music drifting across the terrace — nothing too loud, just enough to fill the air pleasantly.
The Texican Court is located near the 635 and 114 interchange, making it surprisingly easy to reach from most of the Metroplex. Parking is free, the vibe is relaxed, and the sunset views from that rooftop are the kind that make you want to linger long after your glass is empty. Irving has plenty of places to spend an evening, but very few deliver this particular combination of beauty, ease, and a really good frozen margarita. Do yourself a favor and go soon — before everyone else figures it out.
