The Oregon Arts Commission’s Sustaining Arts Program has allocated $113,390 to 31 nonprofit arts organizations in Lane County. The grants are designed to support groups that provide ongoing, high‑quality outreach and arts services in their communities.
How the funding is divided
Recipients fall into two categories. Group A includes organizations with annual expenses under $150,000, while Group B comprises those with expenses of $150,000 or more. Across the state, the commission awarded a total of $1.3 million through the program.
Top recipient
The Lane Arts Council received the largest single award in the county, $7,025, placing it in Group B. Executive Director Tara Wibrew said the funding is critical as “economic challenges, especially due to decisions at the federal and state levels, have created intense funding obstacles and increased competition among many nonprofits.” She added that grant money is increasingly scarce and needed to fill gaps left by other budget cuts.
Why the grants matter
Unlike many grants that target specific projects, the Sustaining Arts Program funds cover general operating expenses such as equipment, office rent, and staff salaries. For the Lane Arts Council, this support enables programs like Eugene’s free First Friday ArtWalk, resources for local artists, and arts education in classrooms throughout the county.
