Travelers in north Kyle should expect delays as the right lane of westbound traffic on Kohlers Crossing between FM 1626 and Benner Road remains closed. The lane shutdown, which began on Sept. 21, supports the installation of a new 24‑inch water transmission line, according to a city news release.
Project details
The water line will run from the FM 1626 tanks on the north side of the bridge over the train tracks to the water well at the corner of Benner Road and Kohlers Crossing. Once completed, the line will move additional water from the FM 1626 Pump Station to the well site, enhancing the city’s water system and helping maintain consistent, reliable water pressure throughout the community.
Impact on drivers and local access
The lane closure is expected to last through December. Motorists may experience intermittent impacts to access points for Cromwell Drive, Everett Street, Burnham and Benner Road. The city advises drivers to use alternate routes and to allow extra travel time.
Despite the construction, access to the Brick and Mortar district – home to the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center, Sprouts, and other nearby businesses – will not be affected, the release states.
Recent incident
On Sept. 26, a vehicle accident damaged the recently installed traffic signals at the Kohlers Crossing and Kyle Crossing intersection. The intersection is now operating as a four‑way stop while repairs are completed.
City’s commitment
Mayor and city officials emphasize that the project is part of a broader effort to modernize Kyle’s water infrastructure, ensuring that families and businesses have the dependable water service they need for daily life and future growth. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through the city’s website and social media channels for any updates on the construction schedule.
