The victim was initially transported by a private vehicle to ECU Chowan Hospital and later transferred to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for further treatment. He is listed as serious but stable, and his identity has not been released.
Juvenile suspect taken into custody
Investigators identified the suspect as a male juvenile who knew the victim. Police indicated the two had a prior history, though they did not provide additional details about the relationship or the events that led to the shooting. The juvenile was arrested at the scene and transferred to a juvenile detention center. Authorities do not believe any other individuals were involved.

Edenton Police Chief LaFon condemned the violence, stating, “Ensuring the safety of our residents, visitors, and businesses remains our highest priority. Incidents such as this deeply impact our community, and we understand the concern they generate.” He added that the department is committed to transparency, a thorough investigation, and cooperation with community partners to prevent future acts of violence.
