TOLEDO, Ohio – A 23‑year‑old woman who works at the Kroger store on Jackman Avenue reported that thieves stripped her Jeep of two tires, rims, lug nuts and hubs during a brief daylight robbery. The incident occurred while she was on a work shift, and a coworker later showed her a photo of the vehicle supported on bricks in the parking lot.
Details of the theft
The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said the theft happened quickly. She observed a coworker’s photo on a phone and initially thought it might be an AI‑generated image. When she realized the photo was real, she learned that both tires on the driver’s side of the Jeep were missing, along with the associated rims, lug nuts and hubs. The left side of the vehicle was left propped up with a single brick.
“I saw someone park by my car and it was fine around 4:10 p.m., and then I was notified around 4:13 p.m.,” she said. “So, whoever did this, they did it pretty fast.”
No special modifications, no immediate suspects
The owner noted that the Jeep has no special modifications; it uses the standard wheels that came with the vehicle. No suspect has been identified, and it is unclear whether the store’s surveillance cameras captured the theft.
Financial impact and community response
The woman faces a $500 deductible on her insurance policy and does not have a clear timeline for when the Jeep will be towed and repaired. She expressed gratitude for the support she’s received from friends and coworkers, many of whom have offered rides to work while she awaits a resolution.
“Luckily, I have a lot of people that are offering me rides to work until this can get towed and fixed,” she said. “I don’t really know how long it’s going to take, but hopefully just a couple of days or a week.”
Her employer has been cooperative, reviewing any available video footage in an effort to identify those responsible.
Local safety considerations
While the incident underscores the vulnerability of vehicles in public parking areas, local law‑enforcement officials have not yet released a statement. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, lock vehicles, and report any suspicious activity promptly.
Crime incidents such as this highlight the importance of community awareness and the role of employers in supporting employees who fall victim to theft. The Kroger management’s willingness to assist with video review reflects a broader commitment to safety in the workplace.
Anyone with information about the theft is urged to contact the Toledo Police Department.
