Dallas will soon welcome a new upscale dining destination as James Beard Award‑winning brothers Jeffrey and Michael Mastro announce plans for Steak 48. The restaurant will occupy a two‑story, roughly 14,000‑square‑foot space at the corner of McKinney Avenue and Monticello Avenue, nestled between Highland Park and Knox Street.
Design and Dining Experience
Steak 48 is being designed as a collection of distinct areas rather than a single large dining room. Guests can choose from a relaxed lounge, an elevated dining area, and several private suites. Some suites will overlook a glass‑enclosed kitchen, giving diners a front‑row view of the culinary team in action. An unexpected feature awaits on the upper level: tables arranged around an indoor decorative pool, adding a touch of elegance to the steakhouse setting. Warm wood tones and custom stone details will run throughout the interior, creating a welcoming yet sophisticated atmosphere.
Chef’s Vision
“We love Dallas and have spent years searching for the right location. We are so grateful to have found this spot and to finally be coming to Dallas,” said Oliver Badgio, chief brand officer of Steak 48. “This neighborhood has an energy that’s hard to miss, which makes it an exciting place for us to put down roots. This location gives us the opportunity to create something special and uniquely Dallas, exclusively for our new home in Dallas.”
Family Legacy
The concept stems from the Mastro family, whose restaurant portfolio includes the original Mastro’s Steakhouse and Mastro’s Ocean Club, both sold in 2007. Since then, Jeffrey and Michael Mastro, together with their father Dennis Mastro and business partner Scott Troilo, have expanded the brand family to include Dominick’s Steakhouse, Steak 44, Steak 48, Ocean 44, Ocean 48 and Durant’s Steakhouse.
Menu Highlights
Steak 48 will prioritize high‑quality ingredients and, when possible, locally sourced products. While the menu will honor classic steakhouse staples, it will also offer a broad range of options beyond beef. Patrons can expect prime steaks in various cuts and sizes, fresh seafood and shellfish, a raw bar, and inventive appetizers such as a colossal shrimp cocktail, chef’s cut hanging bacon, corn crème brûlée and caviar cones. An extensive wine list and craft cocktail program will complement both full‑course meals and lighter bites.
Future Expansion in North Texas
The Mastro name will soon have another North Texas presence. A new Mastro’s restaurant is slated for Fields West, an approximately $800 million mixed‑use development in Frisco. Restaurants at Fields West are expected to open in phases beginning in late 2027 and continuing into 2028. This means Dallas and Frisco will each host a Mastro‑affiliated steakhouse, offering residents and visitors two premium dining options within the region.
Construction Timeline
Construction on the Dallas location is set to begin soon, though an official opening date has not yet been announced. The project promises to add a high‑end dining choice to the city’s vibrant culinary scene while creating jobs and contributing to the local economy.
