More than 5,000 pumpkins now line a quarter‑mile path at Iroquois Park, marking the return of Louisville’s long‑standing Halloween tradition under its new banner, Jack’s Lantern Trail. The rebranding follows the move of the former Jack O’Lantern Spectacular to Kentucky Kingdom.
Family fun stays bright
Visitors praised the fresh displays, noting taller pumpkins and intricate carvings. “Just seeing how many different ways you can carve a pumpkin was pretty unbelievable — the details and everything,” said visitor Josh Thomason. Dave Butwill added, “It was a pleasant surprise seeing the much taller pumpkins all stacked on each other, carved the way they were. We didn’t see that last year, so it was really nice to have that.”
Local businesses watch the crowds
Nearby establishments, however, are monitoring the impact of the change. Jaime Hazelbaker, managing partner of B.A. Colonial on West Kenwood Drive, explained that the restaurant has historically relied on the flow of visitors to Iroquois Park and the adjacent amphitheater. “We heavily depend on the traffic that comes from Iroquois Amphitheater and the events that happen over there,” Hazelbaker said.
While official monthly figures are still pending, staff have already noticed a dip in patronage. “Typically at this time of year, we would have a line out the door,” Hazelbaker noted. “And we have not seen that the week before Halloween.” The restaurant hopes upcoming holiday events will help draw more guests.
Community encouragement
Despite the concerns, families are urging others not to be spooked by the rebranding. “Not only did we enjoy the pumpkins better, but we got all our family here this year, so it’s much better,” Butwill said, emphasizing the event’s continued appeal for local residents.
Jack’s Lantern Trail remains a seasonal highlight for Louisville families, offering a festive, family‑friendly experience while local businesses adapt to the evolving landscape of park events.
