Downtown Fort Smith will come alive Saturday, Nov. 7, for the inaugural Garrison Arts Walk, a free, family‑friendly event running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. organized by Main Street Fort Smith and the Fort Smith Downtown Business Association.
According to Arkansas Online, roughly 40 artists are paired with local businesses, and an additional 10 music acts will perform throughout the district. Participants will showcase work ranging from painting and photography to ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, glass, sculpture and mixed media. A digital map of participating locations is available at mainstreetfs.org.
Artists and makers will be spread across Garrison Avenue, Rogers Avenue, the Bakery District, Third Street and 10th Street. Outdoor gathering spots such as Uptown Courtyard Apartments, Garrison Commons pocket park and Ross Pendergraft Park will host children’s activities, performances by the River Valley Community Band and Western Arkansas Ballet, and information about regional creative resources.
Special highlights include a live mural being painted by Annabell Larsh on the east‑facing wall of 19 Court Street and window‑painting demonstrations downtown. Navy veteran and fiber artist Crystal Bedney will open her new shop, Serious Fiber, in the Commerce Collective retail incubator and conduct live demonstrations on the day of the walk.
“We want people to know that downtown is vibrant and safe and thriving,” said Amanda Hager, executive director of Main Street Fort Smith. “It’s a place where everyone of all ages from all walks of life can come downtown and have a really good experience.” Hager added that the artist participation fee is kept at $25 to lower barriers for creators.
The Garrison Arts Walk is part of a larger collaborative arts weekend that includes the Red Autumn Art Festival (Nov. 6‑7) and the Fort Smith International Film Festival (Nov. 5‑7). All events are free and scheduled rain or shine.
What’s next: Visitors can check the digital map for exact locations and plan their day. The event continues the momentum of Fort Smith’s growing cultural scene and offers a chance for residents and tourists alike to explore downtown businesses while supporting local creators.
