Little Miami Middle School in Morrow, Ohio, called emergency responders on Tuesday evening after smoke was noticed in the school’s band room. The alarm prompted a rapid response from local fire personnel, who arrived on scene to assess the situation.
Investigation Finds HVAC Source
After a thorough inspection, emergency crews concluded that no fire was present. Instead, the smoke originated from the building’s heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning (HVAC) system. The district’s statement confirmed that the HVAC unit was the source of the smoke and that the system is now being shut down for safety.
“Official assessment from emergency personnel determined the issue originated from the HVAC system, and maintenance teams are planning the necessary repairs. All students and staff are safe, and Little Miami Middle School will continue with a normal schedule tomorrow, Wednesday,” the Little Miami Schools district said in a release.
School administrators emphasized that the safety of students, teachers, and staff remains the top priority. The district has communicated directly with parents, reassuring them that the incident posed no danger and that the school environment is secure.
Maintenance crews are scheduled to begin repairs first thing Thursday. The district expects the HVAC system to be fully operational within a few days, minimizing any disruption to classroom comfort and air quality.
In the meantime, the school will rely on temporary portable heating and cooling units to maintain a comfortable learning environment. Teachers have been briefed on the situation and will continue instruction as planned.
Local officials praised the swift response of the fire department and the clear communication from the school district. “Our first‑responders acted quickly and professionally, and the district’s transparency keeps our community informed,” said a representative from the Morrow Fire Department.
Parents are encouraged to stay in touch with the school’s administration for any updates on the repair timeline. The district will provide further notices should additional steps be required to ensure the safety and comfort of all students.
