Grand Rapids – The Holy Trinity Philoptochos Society is preparing to welcome the community for its annual fundraising celebration, “A Taste of Greece,” on Saturday, November 5. The event, held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 330 Lakeside Dr. NE, will feature a pre‑packaged Mediterranean meal that highlights the beloved gyro, along with spanakopita, a Greek village salad, baklava, and beverages.
Family‑friendly feast supports faith‑based philanthropy
Rooted in the church’s long‑standing tradition of service, the Philoptochos Society uses the proceeds to fund a variety of charitable projects, from food‑bank donations to youth programs. Co‑chairs Vasiliki Christopoulos and Ginger Lange stopped by the FOX 17 Morning Mix to share details about the menu and the importance of the fundraiser to the parish’s outreach mission.
“Our goal is to bring families together around a shared love of good food and Christian service,” Christopoulos said. “When people enjoy a gyro and a piece of baklava, they’re also supporting the families and neighbors who need a helping hand.”
How to order
Meals are available for pre‑order through a drive‑through pickup at the church. While pre‑orders have now closed, same‑day orders will be taken on a first‑come, first‑served basis until supplies run out. Attendees can expect a generous portion size, with each meal carefully prepared by volunteers from the congregation.
Why the “Year of the Gyro”?
This year’s theme, “Year of the Gyro,” celebrates the iconic Greek sandwich that has become a staple on American tables. By featuring the gyro as the centerpiece, the event honors both cultural heritage and the simple pleasures that bring families together around the dinner table.
Supporting a cause that matters
The Philoptochos Society’s charitable work aligns with the core values of traditional families and Christian faith, emphasizing service, generosity, and community cohesion. Funds raised will help sustain programs that provide food assistance, educational resources, and emergency relief to those in need throughout Grand Rapids and the surrounding area.
Join the celebration
Community members are encouraged to arrive early, as the drive‑through will fill quickly. The event offers a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy a taste of Greek culture while contributing to a cause that reflects the church’s mission of love and service.
