Holland residents have three family‑friendly activities to choose from this Saturday, Oct. 24. The downtown trick‑or‑treat walk, a Not‑So‑Spooky Boo Bash at the Holland Ice Park, and a Day of the Dead celebration at the Holland Armory are all free and open to the public.
Downtown trick‑or‑treat
From 10 a.m. to noon, more than 50 downtown businesses and organizations will hand out candy to children in costume. The event is rain or shine, and participants are encouraged to wear costumes, though it is not required. Event sponsor Adient will also staff a booth at GDK Park on Eighth Street, where kids can play Halloween‑themed games and win prizes.
Not‑So‑Spooky Boo Bash at the Ice Park
The Holland Ice Park, located at 71 E. Sixth St., will host the Boo Bash from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities include a Halloween scavenger hunt, festive games, a fall photo backdrop, and the Not‑So‑Spooky Ice Ribbon Barrel Ride. Barrel rides cost $5 for riders in costume and $7 for those without a costume. Costumes are encouraged but not mandatory. At 1 p.m., the Herrick District Library will present a special Not‑So‑Spooky Halloween Story Time at the park.
Day of the Dead celebration at the Armory
Just blocks from the Ice Park, the Holland Armory will host a Day of the Dead celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Organized by the Holland Museum, Latin Americans United for Progress (LAUP), and CultureWorks Transformative Art + Design Academy, the event will feature live music, dance performances, art activities, and face painting. Visitors can view community ofrendas created by local K‑12 students and learn about the traditions surrounding the holiday. The celebration is free and open to everyone.
These events provide safe, family‑oriented ways for Holland’s residents to enjoy the fall season while supporting local businesses and cultural organizations.
