Highland Village continues to invest in safe, reliable roadways and community traditions as we head into the holiday season. The City’s Street Maintenance Program recently evaluated 126 asphalt streets using a Pavement Condition Index, identifying several streets in failing condition that will be addressed in the upcoming Phase 3 construction.
Phase 3 Street Improvements
Phase 3 will focus on Meadowbrook Drive, Oak Street, Redwood Drive, Cedar Drive, Ferndale Drive, Merriman Drive (from the median to Sellmeyer Lane), and Gayle Lane. Construction is slated to begin this month and run through July 2027. The work follows the completion of Phases 1 and 2 and reflects the city’s commitment to maintaining a safe, welcoming community.
Highland Shores Boulevard Reconstruction
The city also approved a major reconstruction of Highland Shores Boulevard, extending from Briarhill Boulevard to Twin Coves. The project will replace the existing concrete pavement, improve drainage, and add pedestrian‑safety and traffic‑calming features. Funding comes from $7.4 million in Certificates of Obligation issued in 2025, with $5,515,000 earmarked for this project and a 50 % match from Denton County. Because the certificates coincide with expiring debt, there will be no impact on the city’s ad valorem tax rate.
SPI Engineering has been contracted to design the project, and bids will open on Nov. 12. Construction is expected to start in late fall 2026 and last roughly two years. The city acknowledges temporary inconveniences but emphasizes the long‑term benefits for safety and accessibility.
Holiday Celebrations
Residents can look forward to several family‑focused events. “Village Glows” on Nov. 21 at The Shops at Highland Village will feature a 35‑foot Christmas tree lighting, a light show, musical entertainment, horse‑drawn carriage rides, face painting, cookie decorating, ornament making, and Santa’s arrival. The Highland Village Public Safety Toy and Food Drive will launch at this event, inviting donations of new toys or food items for local families.
On Dec. 12, Doubletree Ranch Park will host “Christmas at the Ranch,” offering a Santa workshop, reindeer visits, snow hills, and holiday lighting—perfect for family photos and seasonal cheer.
Supporting Local Business
The holiday season is the busiest time for Highland Village retailers and restaurants. Keeping sales‑tax dollars in the community supports local entrepreneurs and strengthens the local economy.
Practical Reminders
Republic Services will not collect trash on Thanksgiving Day; Thursday’s route will shift to Friday, and Friday’s route will move to Saturday.
