Owensboro, Ky. – Habitat for Humanity of Owensboro‑Daviess County is inviting neighbors to celebrate a new milestone in the Carter Community Court development. On Friday, Nov. 6, the organization will dedicate its eighth home to Carol Robertson and her family, then open the entire site to the public for its first‑ever open house.
Celebrating affordable homeownership
“One of the greatest joys of what we do is watching families overcome challenges and work so hard to reach this moment,” said Amanda Green, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Owensboro‑Daviess County. “Every family has a story, and the journey to homeownership isn’t always easy. Seeing Carol and her family reach this milestone reminds us why our work is so important.”
The dedication ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the open house from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to walk through homes at various stages of construction, see the craftsmanship that goes into each Habitat home, and learn about the organization’s homeownership program and volunteer opportunities.
Community effort behind the development
Carter Community Court is a ten‑home development made possible by local volunteers, donors, businesses, and community partners. Green emphasized that the project reflects a collective effort: “We want our community to see what they’re helping make possible. Whether someone has volunteered, donated, or is simply curious about what we do, we hope they’ll come out and see the work happening right here in Owensboro.”
The open house will give residents a behind‑the‑scenes look at the building process, from foundation work to final finishing touches. Habitat staff will be on hand to answer questions about how families qualify for the program, the financial counseling provided, and the long‑term benefits of affordable homeownership for the region.
How to get involved
Habitat for Humanity of Owensboro‑Daviess County relies on a steady stream of volunteers to keep construction on schedule and to support families after they move in. Community members can sign up for a single day of work, commit to a regular schedule, or contribute financially. Information about upcoming volunteer days and donation options will be available at the open house and on the organization’s website.
Local businesses have also played a key role, providing materials, services, and sponsorships that reduce construction costs and keep the homes affordable. The partnership model demonstrates how faith‑based values, traditional family stability, and individual liberty can come together to strengthen the neighborhood.
Looking ahead
With the eighth home dedicated, Carter Community Court moves closer to completion. The final two homes are slated for construction later this year, bringing the total to ten affordable homes for families in need. Habitat’s continued success in Owensboro underscores the power of community‑driven solutions to address housing insecurity while preserving the core values of family, faith, and freedom.
