Greenville residents will get a fresh take on the beloved 1984 comedy Ghostbusters when the “Ghostbusters in Concert” production arrives at the Peace Center on October 27 at 7:30 p.m. The event pairs a full screening of the original film with a live 12‑member ensemble performing the iconic score in real time.
Live music meets classic cinema
Conducted by Danielle Jagelski, the orchestra will play the full Elmer Bernstein score while the movie runs on the Peace Center’s high‑definition screen. Bernstein, whose work also includes The Magnificent Seven and To Kill a Mockingbird, composed the original music for Ghostbusters. His son, Peter M. Bernstein, served as music supervisor for the concert and reconstructed the score for today’s performance.
Why the format matters
John Kinsner, producer of the tour and chief executive of Black Ink Presents, explained that the live‑film concert format has grown dramatically over the past decade. His company now produces roughly 600 film and video‑game concerts worldwide each year, including productions of Labyrinth and Hook. Advances in technology have made these events more accessible, giving audiences a chance to experience familiar movies in a new setting.
“People get to come out and watch a film that they know and love but see it in perhaps a new way or in a new format,” Kinsner said. “They get to hear some incredible live music.” He added that Ghostbusters is especially suited to the format because the franchise continues to attract new generations while retaining the affection of those who grew up with the original.
Family‑friendly fun
The Peace Center encourages attendees to dress in cosplay, celebrating the film’s iconic characters—Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, and the mischievous Stay‑Puft Marshmallow Man. The event offers a family‑friendly evening that blends nostalgia with a concert‑hall experience, making it appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers.
Tickets range from $49.50 to $71.50 and can be purchased by calling 864‑467‑3000 or visiting the Peace Center’s website. Seats are limited, so interested patrons are urged to secure tickets early.
