Frankfort police announced a major law‑enforcement operation on Thursday that resulted in the seizure of $55,461.77 in cash believed to be proceeds from illegal gambling, the confiscation of eight gambling machines, and the recovery of thousands of controlled‑substance pills.
Coordinated search warrants across Franklin County
According to a statement from the Frankfort Police Department, officers executed coordinated search warrants at four locations in Franklin County on Oct. 22. The sites included businesses on East Main Street and Evergreen Road, areas known for commercial activity in the city.
During the searches, officers discovered eight gambling machines that police say were being used to facilitate unlicensed wagering. In addition, they recovered 11,040 pills of 7‑hydroxymitragynine and 2,412 pills of pseudoindoxyl, both classified as controlled substances under Kentucky law.
Arrest of property owner
The investigation led to the arrest of 61‑year‑old Prakash Patel, the owner of the properties where the devices and drugs were found. Patel has been charged with promoting gambling, permitting gambling, and first‑degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
Police officials emphasized that the operation was part of an ongoing criminal investigation targeting illegal gambling networks and drug distribution in the Frankfort area. “Our officers worked diligently to protect the community from unlawful gambling and dangerous substances,” the department said.
Community response and next steps
The seizure underscores the city’s commitment to enforcing state laws that protect families and uphold public safety. Local residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity and to cooperate with law‑enforcement efforts.
Patel is being held in the Franklin County Detention Center pending a court appearance. The case will proceed through the Kentucky criminal justice system, and additional charges could be filed if further evidence emerges.
Members of the public with information, photos, or video related to the operation are asked to contact the LEX18 newsroom.
