FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Philharmonic invites families and movie lovers to a one‑of‑a‑kind concert on Saturday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Purdue Fort Wayne Music Center. The orchestra will present a live‑to‑picture performance of the classic holiday film Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, complete with a full orchestral score conducted by Caleb Young.
Local musician returns to the screen
Deb Welter, the Philharmonic’s Assistant Principal Viola, will appear both on stage and on screen. In 1992, while a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Welter was filmed in an orchestra scene for the movie. She recalled the experience, saying, “One of my favorite things about the whole experience was seeing just how much work goes into two scenes of a movie. And now I can say ‘I’m in a movie’!”
Live music, film and community
The original soundtrack was recorded by studio musicians in Los Angeles, while the on‑screen orchestra was filmed in Chicago during an overnight session that ran from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. For the Fort Wayne event, the Philharmonic will recreate that music in real time, allowing audiences to hear the score as the film unfolds on a large screen.
“Performing a live score for a beloved film is a wonderful way to bring the community together,” said conductor Caleb Young. “It showcases the talent of our musicians and gives families a festive, family‑friendly evening.”
Tickets and seating
General‑admission tickets start at $20 and are sold through the Sweetwater Sound Pass initiative. Because demand is high, the Philharmonic has added overflow seating in the gallery, and a limited number of reserved seats remain available in the main concert hall. Tickets can be purchased online at fwphil.org, by calling the ArtsTix Community Box Office at 260‑422‑4226, or in person at the venue beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Part of the Pops Series
The concert is presented as part of the Philharmonic’s Pops Series, sponsored by Aunt Millie’s. The series brings popular music and film scores to the stage, offering an accessible cultural experience for all ages.
Local families, seniors, and students are encouraged to attend. The event provides a wholesome holiday‑season outing that aligns with Fort Wayne’s tradition of supporting the arts, family entertainment, and community togetherness.
