Fort Wayne drivers are facing gasoline prices that are almost $4 per gallon, the highest level recorded this year. According to the latest GasBuddy report, the average price rose 8.7 cents over the past week, reaching $3.99 on Monday.
Local price details
The survey, which covered 201 stations throughout the city, showed a range of $3.77 to $4.49 per gallon on Sunday – a spread of 72 cents. Compared with a month ago, the average is 13.9 cents higher, and it is nearly $0.92 more than the same time last year.
Regional context
While Fort Wayne’s prices are climbing, the national average held steady at $4.24 per gallon during the same week. That figure remains $1.24 above the level recorded a year earlier, even though it is down 22.3 cents from the previous month.
Nearby cities are seeing even sharper jumps. Toledo’s average jumped 34.4 cents to $4.40 per gallon, Kalamazoo rose 26 cents to $4.78, and South Bend’s price increased 12.8 cents to $4.01.
Why prices are rising
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, explained that most states experienced a slight decline in gasoline prices last week, but a refinery issue in the Great Lakes region has driven up costs across the Midwest. He noted that the situation is beginning to improve, though ongoing uncertainty in global oil markets continues to affect fuel prices.
Diesel and future outlook
Diesel prices are also on the rise, with the national average climbing four cents to $6.34 per gallon. GasBuddy projects that gasoline prices will stay above $4 per gallon in the near term, and diesel is expected to remain above $6.
For comparison, Fort Wayne motorists paid an average of $3.08 per gallon on October 26, 2025, and $2.88 on the same date in 2024.
