Former Denton County sheriff seeks living donor for life‑saving liver transplant

Former Denton County Sheriff Will Travis, a longtime public‑safety leader now residing in Flower Mound, is urgently seeking a living donor for a liver transplant. Travis has been diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), a rare autoimmune condition, and cholangiocarcinoma, a form of bile‑duct cancer.

Health update and community appeal

According to a recent family update, Travis remains in high spirits despite a recent bout of pancreatitis and a brief pause in chemotherapy. He has regained about 20 of the 40 pounds he lost and reports increased energy. Nevertheless, a liver transplant remains essential for his long‑term recovery.

“My dad has spent his life answering the call to help others,” wrote his daughter Dani Travis on social media. “Now we’re asking you to help answer the call for him as he needs a liver transplant.”

Living donor details

The Travis family is working with Living Donor Dallas to locate a compatible donor. Travis’s blood type is B+, making donors with B+, B‑, O+ or O‑ potentially suitable, though the transplant team will confirm final compatibility.

Because the liver can regenerate, a living donor would give roughly 40 % of their liver, which typically regrows to full size within a few months. “God is good,” said Kathy Travis, Will’s wife. “With everyone out there, we know there’s going to be someone that will be able to donate and give that gift of life back to Will.”

Medical journey

Travis was first diagnosed with PSC five or six years ago. Since then, his family and community have offered steadfast support. “I’ve been so thankful for all of our friends and family and the prayers,” Kathy Travis added. “When we first found out about the disease, we ended up being at the hospital for about a month… he almost died… the doctors were very surprised he made it.”

Despite the challenges, Travis’s attitude remains positive. “The support has been overwhelming—from people in the community to his law‑enforcement friends, to his brothers—it’s been great,” Kathy said. “He’s kept a really good attitude, and he knows it’s not his time.”

How to help

Anyone interested in learning more about living‑donor liver transplantation can visit livingdonordallas.org. The organization provides information on eligibility, the donation process, and how to register as a potential donor.

Will Travis’s appeal underscores the power of community solidarity in confronting serious health crises. By rallying local volunteers, family, and friends, the Travis family hopes to secure the life‑saving transplant that will allow Will to continue serving and inspiring those around him.
