Flower Mound residents, welcome to October. The town is now operating under the 2026 budget approved by the Town Council on Sept. 21. The budget keeps the property‑tax rate at $0.387277 per $100 of assessed value – one of the lowest rates in Denton County – and retains the full 20% homestead exemption as well as the $150,000 exemption for seniors and qualified disabled owners.
New Seasonal Green‑Waste Recycling Service
Effective Oct. 1, Flower Mound’s contract with Republic Services adds a Seasonal Green‑Waste Recycling program. Republic will collect yard debris – brush, leaves, grass clippings, weeds and similar material – twice a year, typically in spring and fall when green waste is abundant. Outside those periods, yard waste will continue to be hauled as bulk trash and sent to the landfill.
The first seasonal collection runs Monday, Nov. 30 through Friday, Dec. 11. Residents should place green waste at the curb on their regular trash‑and‑recycling day, using paper lawn bags or a reusable container clearly labeled “Green Waste.” Tree limbs must be cut to no more than four feet and tied into bundles under 50 pounds.
During the recycling window, bulk trash will not be collected. Bulk items – furniture, appliances, or oversized bags – can be stored until pickup resumes on Monday, Dec. 13, taken free of charge (up to 10 cubic yards) to the Camelot Landfill at 580 Huffines Blvd. with proof of residency, or removed via a special‑pickup service for a fee by calling 972‑539‑SERV.
Street‑Maintenance Dedicated Sales‑Tax Measure on the Ballot
Flower Mound voters will decide on Tuesday, Nov. 3 whether to reauthorize the Street‑Maintenance Dedicated Sales‑Tax for another four years. First approved in 2007, the measure earmarks one‑quarter of one percent of the 8.25 % sales‑tax rate for street upkeep and capital‑improvement projects.
Since the 2022 reauthorization, $19.8 million from the dedicated fund has supported increased street maintenance, reconstruction, personnel, and 16 major projects. If the measure passes, the overall sales‑tax rate will remain unchanged.
Voting is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, with early voting from Mon., Oct. 19 through Fri., Oct. 30. More details are on the town’s website at flowermound.gov/dstre2026.
