The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) unveiled the 2024 high school football playoff brackets on Friday, a development that directly impacts West Palm Beach families, athletes, and fans as 15 teams from the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast earned postseason spots.
According to WPBF, the Open Division match‑ups begin with West Boca facing Raines on Friday, Nov. 13, followed by Miami Central traveling to West Boca on Nov. 20, and West Boca meeting Columbus on Nov. 27. The full Open Division lineup includes St. Thomas, Columbus, West Boca, Chaminade, Lakeland, Miami Central, Raines and Venice.
WPTV highlighted several first‑round pairings across the classification system. In Class 1A, The Benjamin School will host Archbishop Carroll Miami, while Somerset Prep travels to John Carroll and Palmer Trinity meets Pahokee. Class 2A sees automatic first‑round byes for both Cardinal Newman and St. Andrew’s, with Miami Edison slated to play Cardinal Newman in the second round and Washington Miami set for St. Andrew’s.
Class 3A features North Miami Beach at Glades Central. In Class 4A, Atlantic will travel to Miami Norland. Class 5A pits Royal Palm Beach against Palmetto, and Class 6A includes three first‑round games: Fort Pierce Central at Vero Beach, Miami Palmetto at Jupiter, and Western at Spanish River.
WPTV also noted that the playoff season follows a year of standout performances across Palm Beach County, with many local athletes now fielding college offers from programs such as Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Navy, Army, FIU and the University of Miami. The network’s “Football Night in South Florida” highlighted these achievements, underscoring the community’s pride in its young talent.
Residents can follow the bracket progress on the FHSAA website, where the full schedule and results are posted. The first round kicks off Friday, Nov. 13, and subsequent games will be played through the end of November, culminating in the state championship later in December.
What’s next: West Palm Beach fans should mark their calendars for the opening Friday night games on Nov. 13, then keep an eye on local school sites and the FHSAA portal for updates on second‑round dates, which are set for the week of Nov. 20 and beyond. Community members are encouraged to attend the matches to support their teams and celebrate the region’s football tradition.
