Georges Township – The family of 39‑year‑old Shaun Davis gathered with reporters on Tuesday to press the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office for answers after Davis was fatally shot at his girlfriend’s residence on Sunday.
Family seeks clarity
Paige Kersten, who shares four children with Davis, asked pointed questions: “Who did it? Why is no one in custody? And why was it able to get to this point with state paperwork involved?” The family’s frustration centers on what they see as a lack of transparency from investigators.
DA’s initial findings
Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said the evidence points to a domestic situation. “What is being told to us is that Mr. Davis was assaulting his girlfriend in the home and that a juvenile intervened,” Aubele said.
Aubele noted that Davis had a recent arrest after an altercation in which he admitted to biting his girlfriend and was found with drugs. Despite a no‑contact order, the girlfriend posted bail for Davis.
No‑contact order limits
In Pennsylvania, a no‑contact order applies to the alleged victim, not the accused. Aubele explained, “I can’t speak for why she bailed him out, and I can’t, you know, I don’t certainly, you know, he shouldn’t have had any contact with her. But unfortunately, in my experience, there is a cycle of domestic violence where we have charges filed, we have charges withdrawn, we have multiple incidents.”
Family’s call for justice
“I will not sit up here and say that my brother was innocent. We’re not going to say that. But at the end of the day, he deserves justice,” said Tyla Davis, Shaun’s sister.
Investigation continues
Aubele acknowledged the public’s concerns and emphasized that the investigation is still active. “I appreciate the public’s patience. I know a lot of information didn’t go out initially, and a lot of that is because of the age of the shooter and again, because of the fact that we’re still gathering a lot of evidence here. Ultimately, a lot of the things that are being said in contradiction to the claim of self‑defense are not based on fact or reality.”
The DA’s office has not yet indicated whether the alleged shooter will be charged as a juvenile or as an adult. Authorities continue to collect evidence and interview witnesses.
Community impact
The incident has raised concerns among local residents about domestic‑violence cycles and the effectiveness of protective orders. Community leaders are urging families to seek help early and for law‑enforcement agencies to improve outreach and education on domestic‑violence resources.
For now, the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office remains the primary source of information as the case proceeds through the legal process.
