ODESSA, Texas – As part of the Basin Beautification Project’s Fall Basin Action Day, Ector County will provide four convenient locations for residents to drop off bulky household items and tires on Saturday, Nov. 7. The county’s Public Works Department will staff the sites from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., offering a safe, organized alternative to illegal dumping.
What can be dropped off?
The county will accept a range of large items, including furniture, appliances, mattresses and tires. Only Ector County residents may use the service; contractors and businesses are excluded to keep the program focused on household waste.
Where and when
Four drop‑off locations will be open throughout the county, each operating for three hours on Saturday morning. Exact addresses will be posted on the Ector County website and on signage at each site. The Basin Beautification Project’s broader community‑cleanup activities will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., giving volunteers a chance to pick up litter, remove debris and help keep the Permian Basin looking its best.
Volunteer opportunities
Registered volunteers will receive cleanup supplies such as safety vests, gloves and trash bags. The event encourages participation from individuals, families, coworkers, friends and faith‑based groups. Organizers say the combined effort of local governments, nonprofit partners and everyday citizens helps reduce litter, curb illegal dumping and foster pride in the region.
Why it matters
Improper disposal of bulky items and tires can create environmental hazards, attract pests and damage the visual appeal of neighborhoods. By offering a free, county‑wide collection, Ector officials aim to protect the health of families, preserve the natural beauty of the Permian Basin and demonstrate responsible stewardship of public resources.
How to get involved
Residents who wish to volunteer should register in advance through the Basin Beautification Project’s website. Those simply looking to discard items can drive to any of the four designated sites during the scheduled hours. County staff will ensure that all items are handled in accordance with local waste‑management regulations.
The partnership between Ector County and the Basin Beautification Project reflects a shared commitment to community service, environmental responsibility and the values that strengthen traditional families and neighborhoods. By working together, citizens can keep their streets clean, protect the environment and set a positive example for future generations.
