KILGORE, Texas – Diane Day, a familiar voice on East Texas airwaves for 40 years, will be formally recognized this Saturday with induction into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held at the East Texas Broadcast Museum in Kilgore, the very community where Day has spent the bulk of her career.
Decades of dedication to East Texas radio
Day, 62, began her broadcasting journey in 1985 after a college speech instructor encouraged her to pursue the medium. She first cut her teeth at her campus radio station, a local television outlet, and the college newspaper before committing to a full‑time career in radio. Over the years she has worked primarily at KYKX 105.7 and its sister country station KKUS The Ranch, stations that have become staples of the East Texas country music scene.
“It’s truly a blessing,” Day said of the honor. “That is something to be recognized for all these 40 years of putting in the time at the radio station.” She added that she plans to continue on the air as long as the station allows and as long as she finds it enjoyable.
Community involvement and on‑air service
Beyond music programming, Day has been a trusted source for hourly newscasts and severe weather updates, providing vital information during storms that frequently affect the region. She has also helped organize local events such as the Longview PRCA Rodeo and the Big Bass Bonanza, reinforcing her role as a community connector.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will be hosted by the East Texas Broadcast Museum, a venue that showcases historic radio and television equipment and serves as a gathering place for broadcasting enthusiasts. Museum owner Chuck Conrad, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, will also be present.
Looking ahead
When asked about retirement, Day indicated there are no immediate plans to step away from the microphone. “I just plan on doing it as long as they’ll let me, and as long as it’s fun,” she said. “Planning on going strong for a while.”
Day’s induction highlights the lasting impact of local broadcasters who shape the cultural fabric of East Texas. Her career reflects a blend of professional excellence, community service, and a deep love for country music that resonates with listeners across the region.
